YANIK KÖY
Turkey.
Town in Aiolis, 6 km N
of Menemen. It may be the site of Neonteichos, which
was founded, according to Strabo (
621), by Greek immigrants as a base for their attack on Larisa, 30 stades away. The town is also mentioned by Pliny (
HN 5.121) and in an anonymous
Vita Homeri. It never issued any
coinage.
The site at Yanik Köy has produced no identifying
evidence and has never been excavated; its identity depends upon that of Larisa at Buruncuk. The only remains are a number of pieces of terrace wall and a longer stretch of city wall, all of polygonal masonry, and a
paved road leading up from the present village. Sherds
are mostly of the 4th and 3d c. B.C.
