ἀπονυ^χ-ίζω ,
A.pare the nails, Men.996:—Med., “ἀπονυχίσασθαι τὰς χεῖρας” Hp.Mul.1.70:—Pass., have them pared, ἀκριβῶς ἀπωνυχισμένος with carefully pared nails, Thphr.Char.26.4; “ὑπὸ σμίλης ἀπωνυχίσθη” Babr.98.14, cf. Sor.1.69.
2. metaph., scratch out, “τὰ σιτία” Ar. Eq.709.
II. = ὀνυχίζω III, polish by the nail, “τὰ ῥήματα” Jul.Or.2.77a.
III. = ἐξονυχίζω, Paul.Aeg.3.59.
