A.keep watch, used only in compd. with ἐπί, which is always separated from the Verb by tmesis, “αἰπόλια πλατἔ αἰγῶν . . ἐσχατιῇ βόσκοντ᾽, ἐπὶ δ᾽ ἀνέρες ἐσθλοὶ ὄρονται” Od.14.104 ; “ἐπὶ δ᾽ ἀνέρες ἐσθλοὶ ὄροντο, οἶνον οἰνοχοεῦντες” 3.471 (cf. ὄρνυμι ad init.); “ἐπὶ δ᾽ ἀνὴρ ἐσθλὸς ὀρώρει Μηριόνης” Il.23.112.—So Sch.Od.14.104 (cf. ὅρει: φυλάσσει, Hsch.) rightly : ἐπὶ . . ὄρομαι is related to ἐπίουρος （ἔφορος）.
