Mete.389a15, GA750a24, Thphr.HP8.2.2, CP4.7.2, al.; gen. χεδρόπων or χεδροπῶν, Arist.PA653a24, GA752a21.—Acc. sg. χέδροπα occurs in Python 1.12 (prob.), Porph.Abst.2.6, and nom. χέδροψ Hsch., and τοὺς καρποὺς τοὺς χέδροπας (v.l. χεδροπούς) is found in Arist.HA594b7: but the accent seems to point to sg. χεδροπός. (Perh. a compd. of χείρ, δρέπω, as if χερ-δροπά, plucked by the hand, cf. “χειροδρόποι δ᾽ ἵνα φῶτες ἄτερ δρεπάνοιο λέγονται ὄσπρια, χέδροπά τ᾽ ἄλλα” Nic.Th.752.)
