1. know well, know certainly, “οὐ γάρ πώ τις ἑὸν γόνον αὐτὸς ἀνέγνω” Od.1.216, cf. 21.205, Il.13.734.

2. know again, recognize, Od.4.250; once in Hdt., acknowledge, own, “ἀναγνῶναι τοὺς συγγενέας” Hdt.2.91, cf. Pi.I.2.23: aor. Pass. once in E., “εἰ μὲν γὰρ ἔζη πόσις, ἀνεγνώσθημεν ἄν” Hel.290.
II. after Hom., fut. ἀναγνώσομαι dub. in GDI5075: aor. 2 ἀνέγνων, Cret. 3pl. subj. “-γνῶντι” GDI5040.43: pf. ἀνέγνωκα:—Pass., fut. “-γνωσθήσομαι” Lys.17.9: aor. “ἀνεγνώσθην” Pl.Prm.127d: pf. “ἀνέγνωσμαι” Isoc. 15.67, etc.:—of written characters, know them again, and so, read, first in Pi.O.10(11).1, cf. Ar.Eq.118, 1065, Th.3.49, And.1.47, etc. (never in Trag.); ἀναγνώσεται (sc. ὁ γραμματεύς) D.20.27, etc.; “λαβὼν ἀνάγνωθι τὸ ψήφισμα” Id.18.118; “λέγε . . καὶ ἀνάγνωθι” Id.19.70; “τὴν διαμαρτυρίαν ἀναγνώτω” Id.44.45; “ἀ. πρὸς ἐμαυτόν” Ar.Ra.52: abs., “οἱ ἀναγιγνώσκοντες” students, Plu.Alex. 1, Marin.Procl.15; “ἀ. παρά τινι Ἀριστοτέλους τὰ περὶ ψυχῆς” attend lectures on A., ib.12:—Pass., τὰ βιβλία τὰ ἀνεγνωσμένα books read aloud, hence, published, opp. τὰ ἀνέκδοτα, Lycon ap.D.L.5.73.
III. Ion. usage, causal, mostly in aor. ἀνέγνωσα, induce one to do a thing, “τούτους . . ἀναγνώσας ἕπεσθαι” Hdt.5.106, cf. 1.87, 4.158, 6.83, al.; inf. is omitted, ὡς ἀνέγνωσε when he had persuaded him, Id.1.68: once in pres., “ἀναγιγνώσκεις στρατεύεσθαι βασιλέα” Id.7.10; persuade, convince, ὅτι . . Hp.Art. 1:—aor. Pass., ἀνεγνώσθην to be persuaded to do a thing, c. inf., Hdt.7.7 and 236: without inf., “ὑπὸ τῆς γυναικὸς ἀναγνωσθείς” 4.154; “χρήμασι ἀ.” 6.50: plpf. Pass., “ὡς οὗτοι . . οἱ ἀνεγνωσμένοι ἦσαν” 8.110: rare in Att., “ὑπὸ τῶν κυρίων ἀναγιγνωσκόμενον” Antipho 2.2.7.
