A.carrying a rod or staff:
1. = ῥαβδοῦχος 2, at Athens, a sort of beadle or constable, Sch.Ar.Pax733 (pl.); in Egypt, PSI4.332.11 (iii B.C.), PPetr.3p.340 (iii B.C.), PCair.Zen.753.73 (pl., iii B.C.); of officials at games, IG7.3078 (Lebad., i B.C.); in the mysteries, ib.5(1).1390.41 (Andania, i B.C.); at Rome, lictor, Plb.10.32.2.
2. Astrol., of the planets (ἥλιος being the βασιλεύς), Sch. A.R. 4.262, cf. S.E.M. 5.31.
