Būbastis , is, f., = Βούβαστις.
I. A town in Egypt, on the Pelusian arm of the Nile, now Tel-Basta (i.e. Hill of Bubastis), in the vicinity of the village Benalhassar, Mel. 1, 9, 9.—Hence, Būbastītes -mŏs , Βουβαστίτης νομός, Strab., Plin. 5, 9, 9, § 49; Mel. 1, 9, 9.—
II. The goddess Bubastis, who was worshipped there; corresponding to Diana, Ov. M. 9, 691; cf. Hdt. 2, 137; 2, 156.—Hence, Būbastius , a, um, adj., of Bubastis: “sacra,Grat. Cyn. 42; gen. plur. BVBASTIVM, Inscr. Orell. 5974.
