Tentyra
(
τὰ Τέντυρα). Now Denderah; a city of Upper Egypt, on the
western bank of the Nile, between Abydos and Coptos, with celebrated temples of Hathor (the
Egyptian Aphrodité), Isis, and Typhon (
Ptol.iv. 5, 6). There are still magnificent remains of the temples of Hathor
and of Isis: in the latter was found the celebrated Zodiac, which is now preserved at Paris.
