Vulturnum

Now Castel di Volturno; a town in Campania, at the mouth of the river Vulturnus, was originally a fortress erected by the Romans in the Second Punic War (Livy, xxv. 20, 22). At a later time it was made a colony (Livy, xxxiv. 45; Varr. L. L. v. 5).
