Δάφνη).
1.
The daughter of the rivergod Peneus, in Thessaly, pursued by Apollo, who was charmed by her
beauty; but as she was on the point of being overtaken by him, she prayed for aid, and was
metamorphosed into a laurel-tree (
δάφνη), which became in
consequence the favourite tree of Apollo.
