OLCI´NIUM

OLCI´NIUM (Οὐλκίνιον, Ptol 2.17.5; Olchinium, Plin. Nat. 3.26: Eth. Olciniatae), a town of some importance in Illyricum, which surrendered to the Romans at the commencement of hostilities with Gentius, and which, in consequence, received the privilege of freedom and immunity from taxation. (Liv. 45.26.) Dulcigno or Ulkin, as it is still called, is identified with this town. (Hahn, Albanesische Studien, p. 262.)
