πω, ‘yet,’ as regards the course of the narrative—we have not yet come to the real δεινόν. The corresponding adverb in a positive clause is ἤδη. In English we could not thus repeat the adjective without addition, but should say ‘this, bad as it is, is not the worst.’ Cf. Dem. 19. 113, καὶ οὐχὶ τοῦτό πω δεινόν, τηλικοῦτον ὄν.

ἀσφαλείας, perhaps in allusion to the speaker's unsuccessful prosecution of Aeschines περὶ παραπρεσβείας. ἔργα , ‘actual facts.’
