ἐψηφίσαντο: again on motion of Demostratus, acc. to Plut. Nic. 12; Alcib. 18.

αὐτοκράτορας εἶναι: acc. to Plutarch, Alcib. 18, with the addition καὶ τῆς παρασκευῆς καὶ τοῦ πολέμου παντός.

ἄριστα : adj. with implied general subj., as in 8. 14.

καταλόγους ἐποιοῦντο: made levies. Cf. 31. 26.

τοῦ ξυνεχοῦς πολέμου: i.e. the ten years' war. See App. on 2. 1. 2.—ἐς...ἐπιγεγενημένης : as to the youth that had grown up. For ἐς, cf. 1. 41. 8; 3. 14. 1.

ἅθροισιν: only here in Attic prose.—διὰ τὴν ἐκεχειρίαν: gives reason for ἀνειλήφει ἑαυτήν.
