3. An officer in the service of Ptolemy III. (Euergetes), king of Egypt, who was sent by him to explore the shores of the Red Sea and the coasts of Ethiopia. Much of the information recorded by Agatharchides was derived from his authority. (Diod. 3.18.)

In the article on Soranus, we find: "at this present time (1848)" and this date seems to reflect the dates of works cited. 1873 - probably the printing date.
