Syager

（*Su/agros), a Lacedaemonian, was the deputy from his state in the embassy which the Greeks sent to Gelon, to ask his assistance against Xerxes. [GELON.] Syager indignantly rejected, on behalf of Sparta, the condition insisted on by the tyrant, that he should have the supreme command of the allied armament (Hdt. 7.153, 59.)

In the article on Soranus, we find: "at this present time (1848)" and this date seems to reflect the dates of works cited. 1873 - probably the printing date.
