cried Vasquez.

Miles and Osborne eyed each other.
Miles had a hunting lever, Osborne a gold repeater.
“Come, come,” cried the robber, looking down the road, and seeing the cloud of mounted men not more than a thousand yards behind, “ I'll take them both.
Good-bye!”
Unable to ride the brigand down, Rowland, acting on Leiva's hints, affected to renounce the chase.
