دُوَارٌ دوار A vertigo, or giddiness in the head; (S, * A, * K;) as also ↓ دَوَارٌ . (M, K.) -A2- Also, and ↓ دَوَارٌ , (S,) or الدُّوَارُ and ↓ الدَّوَارُ , (T, M, K,) and (but less commonly, TA) ↓ الدُّوَّارُ and ↓ الدَّوَّارُ , (M, K,) A certain idol, (T, S, M, K,) which the Arabs set up, and around it they made a space, (T,) round which they turned, or circled: (T, M:) and the same name they applied to the space above mentioned: (T, M:) it is said that they thus compassed it certain weeks, like as people compass the Kaabeh: (MF:) or certain stones around which they circled, in imitation of people compassing the Kaabeh. (IAmb.) Imra-el- Keys says, “ عَذَارَى دُوَارٍ فِى مُلَآءٍ مُذَيَّلِ
” [Virgins making the circuit of Duwár, in long-skirted garments of the kind called مُلَآء]: (S:) likening a herd of [wild] cows to damsels thus occupied and attired, alluding to the length of their tails. (TA.) ↓ الدُّوَّارُ and ↓ الدَّوَّارُ also signify The Kaabeh. (Kr, M, K.) And ↓ دُوَّارٌ (Th, M, [not دُوَّارَةٌ, as is implied in the K,]) A circling tract (↓ مُسْتَدَار ) of sand, around which go the wild animals: (Th, M, K:) a poet says, “ بِدُّوَارِ نِهْى ذِى عَرَارٍ وَحُلَّبِ
” [In the sandy tract around a pool of water left by a torrent, containing plants of the kinds called 'arár and hullab]. (Th, M.)
