Virginia life Insurance Company.
Perhaps the most remarkable instance of success in our new enterprises is that of the
Virginia Life Insurance Company, chartered last winter by the Legislature.
It has about a million and a quarter of risks, although it commenced operations only at the close of April last.
Its income is now surprisingly large, although it has been in operation not quite eight months, and little has been done as yet by the agencies of the company out of this city.
It is a branch of insurance somewhat new to our people and one which required time to arrange and systematize it. When the agents get fully under way, we anticipate for the company a large increase of its business, and a continuation of that prosperity which thus far has been almost without example.
We commend the company to our own people who want to ensure their own and their servants' lives.
By putting money into it we are keeping it at home.
The success of this company is due to the constant exertions of its
President,
Maj. Samuel J. Harrison, who has devoted his time to it without flagging since it started, and who has displayed in his management of its affairs not only great energy but remarkable tact and talent.
