The streets

--The snow dissolved rapidly yesterday, and the streets presented a surface of rich mellow mud, through which the horses waded and plunged, pursuing their task under difficulties and aggravated by the driver's whip. It was little better at the crossings than anywhere else, and if a man got over safely himself, he had the luxury of soiled and spattered pantaloons, and boots without a particle of lustre. The ladies tried in vain to find a dry sidewalk, and we apprehend that many went home with damp stockings and muddy dresses. Nevertheless, everybody made the best of it, and the blue sky and bright sunshine gave a cheerful appearance to things generally.
