Death of a Veteran of the press.
Charleston, Feb. 3.
--Mr. A. S. Willington, senior editor and proprietor of the Charleston Courier, and probably the oldest editor on the continent, died in this city on yesterday.
Mr. W. connected himself with the Courier about the commencement of the present century, and for nearly sixty years his name, as editor and proprietor, has continued at its head.
He was distinguished, professionally, for his prudence, energy, and untiring industry; and for many years his paper has been one of the most widely read and most profitable in the South.
In private life, his courtesy and kindness endeared him to his many friends; and though for several years affected by an almost total deprivation of sight, it neither abated his cheerfulness and serenity of temper, nor his close attention to, and active participation in the business and management of his office.
He was about 84 years of age.
