Reported battle in Missouri.

Memphis, March 5.
--The Captain of the steamer Vicksburg reached here this evening, from New Madrid. He states that the scouts brought in a copy of the St. Louis Republican, of a recent date, which states that Gen. Price had a fight with the enemy, and whipped them, killing about 1,000, taking many prisoners, and put the enemy to flight. General Price was in full pursuit of them towards St. Louis. This statement of the Captain is communicated to the press more with the hope that it may be true, than with much faith in the accuracy of it.
