The steam frigate ‘"Minnesota"’ was a first close steam frigate, one of the largest and most powerful steam frigates in the world.

The ‘"Congress"’ was the crask sailing frigate of the United States Navy. She carried an enormous armament--sixteen 82's of 42 cwt.' and four of cwt., on her spar deck, and twenty of 57 cwt., and ten 8 inch guns of cwt., on her gun deck. Her complement of men was .

The ‘"Cumberland,"’ which had been razed, was probably the most formidable vessel of her class in the navy. She carried two. 11-inch pivot guns of 16,000 lbs. each, and twenty-two inch guns, of 9,000 lbs. each. Every sea men will as once observe what a terrific beachside she could give. Her complement of men was about .
