A sweet Tooth.

--Billy, slave to Mrs. Sally Vannerson, was carried before the Mayor on Saturday and ordered to be punished for steeling twelve cakes from Mrs. Schoenfelder. The theft was not proved to have been inspired by hunger. The provision was taken merely to provide against a scarcity, which the Mayor thought was wholly imaginary on the pars of the defendant. While the presiding functionary would forgive the filching of a rasher of bacon for hunger's sake, it was his duty to punish uncalled for aggressions on the property of inoffensive citizens, and he meant to do it come weal or woe.
