Yellow Jack.

We are greatly gratified to learn that ‘"Yellow Jack"’ has already made his appearance in New Orleans. He is somewhat earlier than usual this season, but he has the Southern virtue of hospitality and does not like to keep his guests long waiting. There are many strangers now visiting the domains of Yellow Jack, and though they come uninvited, they will be none the less welcome to him. With an appetite whetted by a two year's fast, he must have gazed with greedy eyes from the swamps and bayous upon the pompous procession of war vessels and the swarming legions of the land, hastening to ‘"seize, occupy and possess"’ the salubrious dominions of ‘"Bronze John."’ Farragut and Butler, the Federal drovers, have crowded this plague market with a lot of fat Yankee cattle, and scarcely are they well installed in their quarters before the saffron-colored old gormandizer and gourmand makes his appearance.

Three deaths in New Orleans already from yellow fever! Three deaths in the bright month of May, when the Crescent City is usually the healthiest city in the Southern clime. Well done, Yellow Jack! This gives earnest of business, honest friend. We have been disappointed in some expected allies, but we shall not be disappointed of thee. We look forward with inexpressible delight to the feast of fat things that is spreading before ‘"Bronze John."’ It gives us joy to think that we have one auxiliary who will be as merciless to the foe as they have been to us, who will give them a touch of their own hard, remorseless, insensate cruelty; who will fix a man trap for these burglars and murderers, in which they will struggle and howl in vain. --The blood stained wretches! Thank Heaven that some of them at least are likely to get their deserts.

Let them hold on to New Orleans if they can! We defy them to do it! We only hope they will try. Our greatest fear is that they will evacuate the city. We want them to stay until ‘ "Bronze John"’--blessings on his solemn face and annihilating breath — compels them to evacuate the city by way of the graveyard.--When he hoists the black flag, they may hoist white or black, as suits their fancy; no squeamish qualms of humanity ever soften his purposes.

In the words of Israel's valiant king: ‘"They compassed me about with words of hatred, and fought against me without a cause. They have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my good will. Let Satan stand at their right hand and let their prayers be turned into sin. Let their days be few; let their posterity be destroyed, and in the next generation let their name be clean put out. Break the jawbones of the lions, O, Lord. Cast forth thy lightnings and tear them; shoot out thine arrows and consume them."’--Amen! Amen!
