Water needed.

--We understand that an application is to be made to the City Council to put up five or six public hydrants along the line of Main street, commencing at its intersection with 25th, and extending as far up as 7th. Should the Council see fit to comply with the request, and attach a dipper to each hydrant, the wearied soldier could be benefited greatly. Hydrants of the sort alluded to could easily be abolished when the necessity for their existence ceases. Horses need the water as well as the soldiers, and our authorities should, during this hot weather, allow the poor dumb beasts a slight chance. The cost of putting up the hydrants would be comparatively trifling. It would certainly bear no sort of comparison to the amount of good to be accomplished. In nearly every other city of the size of Richmond, public hydrants are recognized as indispensable. It is to be hoped that the Council will go to work and have the hydrants in operation without unnecessary delay.
