On Wednesday last, some twenty-five members of the Fauquier Cavalry, under Lieut. Smith, were out on a scouting expedition near Hanover Court-House, when they suddenly came upon quite a large body of the enemy, concealed in the woods. A volley was fired into the troopers, when their commander ordered a half, and turning, shouted lustily for his infantry support to advance. The ruse was entirely successful. Thinking an unlimited number of ‘"rebels"’ were about to pounce upon them, the Yankees fled in confusion, while the Fauquier boys pursued as far as was thought expedient, meanwhile discharging their carbines with effect. We had two men wounded by the enemy's fire.
