The supply of salt.
This is a matter which at the present time is of great importance to the people of the
South, and it may be interesting to know something with reference to the preparations in progress for obtaining the fall supply.
The principal salt works in the
South, those of
Southwestern Virginia, are now turning out about 3,000 bushels per day, and the company owning the works are improving their facilities for increasing the amount.
The States of
Georgia and
North Carolina are putting up works at the
Virginia wells, in order to supply their people.
Those of
Georgia are nearly completed, and will soon commence operations.
The saltness are enrich, and are believed to be inexhaustible.
