A battle Anticipated in Tennessee.
The
Winchester (Tenn.) Bulletin, of the 4th inst. says that intelligence from the front, obtained from those high in military authority, constrains us to believe that a battle is imminent.
Everything goes to prove that Rorecrans will advance; and, if he does he will be whipped.
Our army is in excellent trim in fine spirits, and anxious to face the music.
The
Bulletin furnishes the following:
‘
A Lieutenant came to
Tullahoma yesterday, and reports that the
Federal had captured one of our cavalry regiments, between
Manchester and
Murfreesboro', on Thursday, and that
Wheeler was fighting them hard, trying to recapture our men and retrieve our loss.
We are disposed to doubt the truth of this report, for there is a discrepancy in the
Lieutenant's statement as to whose regiment it was that was captured.
Yet, the fact that heavy firing was heard at
Tullahoma, coming from the reported vicinity of the disaster, puts us in painful suspense.
An intelligent friend of ours, and an officer on duty at
Tullahoma, with whom we have conversed, says he heard yesterday thirty reports of cannon, and that many fear the report is true.
But we must await the unfolding of the future.
All the skirmishing seems to be upon our right, and the opinion pains that Rosecan is preparing to advance.
He will be met at
Tullahoma, and we firmly believe (God grand it) he will be defeated.
On our left things are silent, but our cavalry are not idle, nor is our infantry in the centre idle.
