Violent assault.

--On Friday night last a violent assault was committed on Fannie Haw kins, in her own house, by a man calling himself C. P. Kalder. About 12 o'clock Miss Hawkins heard a rap at her door, and opening it Kahler stepped in. After a few words K. gave the woman a violent blow on the back of her head with a heavy pistol, somewhat stunning her, and then attempted to pull from her fingers several diamond rings, but before he could succeed she gave the alarm and her assailant fled, dropping his pistol and watch, which have been banded over to the police, Lieut. Carter, of the night watch, on hearing of the assault procured a warrant for the arrest of the desperado, and will endeavor to bring him before the Mayor this morning. Inscribed on the watch is the following: "Presented to C. P. Kahler by Joshua Vansant, as a testimonial of merit for his proficiency in the art of Designing and Drawing in the school of the Maryland Institute. April 5, 1860."
