Calling on the Governor.

--Yesterday morning the militia officers of Richmond met in a body in front of the City Hall, and, preceded by a band of music, marched to the State Executive Mansion, where they were introduced to the Commander-in-Chief of the militia, in a neat and appropriate speech, by Col. Thos. J. Evans.

Gov. Smith responded happily, as he always does when called upon, and returned thanks for the courtesy thus shown him.--The Governor is a soldier, as well as a statesman, and, having every confidence in the power of the South to sustain itself against the Federal hordes, and in the indomitable will of Virginia to win her freedom at the point of the bayonet, will promptly organize the militia for defensive operations, and gladly lead them to the field when their services are needed. True steel himself, he will only ask the people to follow where he will lead, and they will do it.
