The Legislature.
Senate.--
Edwin L. Moore,
Senator elect from the 31st Senatorial district of
Virginia, sent in his resignation yesterday, which was selected, and a writ of election ordered for the immediate filling of the vacancy.
Several resolutions of a private nature were adopted, after which the Senate adjourned.
House.--A quorum of members appearing in their seats yesterday,
Gov. Smith's inaugural address was received, tabled, and the usual number of copies ordered to be printed.
A communication from
Auditor Bennett, furnishing certain statistical information, was ordered to be printed.
Several resolutions of inquiry were adopted.
Also, a preamble and resolutions denouncing the present system of impress ments, and providing for sending the agents into the field.
A bill enlarging the powers and privileges of the Virginia Military Institute was passed.
