A Scene on Main street.

--About half-past 5 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon, as a gentleman and lady were walking together near the corner of Main and Ninth streets, a Confederate officer, somewhat under the influence of liquor, ran violently against them, whereupon the lady's escort placed her in charge of a gentleman who happened to be passing along, and proceeded to chastise the offending lieutenant in a handsome manner. The two being nearly of a size, the fight was kept up for a few minutes with considerable violence; but finally the officer received a blow in the face, which knocked him down some distance from the pavement, cutting and bruising his face very badly, spraining his left shoulder and stunning him so severely that he lay as if he was dead for a minute or two. At this stage of the difficulty the insulted gentleman proceeded to rejoin his female companion.
