Virginia Legislature.

Senate.

Senate bill, passed by the House, amending the fence law, and legalizing the action of county courts in dispensing with enclosures, was taken up, and the amendments having been agreed to, the bill was again passed.

In response to a resolution adopted by the Senate on the 30th of January, 1865, calling for certain information in relation to the impressment of standing timber for the use of the salt works, a communication was received from the superintendent of said works, which communication was laid on the table.

Another communication was received from the Superintendent of the Salt Works, in response to a resolution of the Senate calling for the names and ages of employees under his control as said superintendent; which was referred to the Committee on Exemptions.

On motion of Mr. Graham, the Committee on Finance was instructed by resolution to inquire into the expediency of reporting a bill refunding to the Union Lead Mining Company four thousand six hundred and twenty-eight dollars and seventy five cents, the amount of tax paid for the privilege of manufacturing lead from the 1st of February, 1864, to the 1st of February, 1865.

The bill to submit to the vote of the people, at the next general election, the question of conferring upon the General Assembly power to amend the Constitution of Virginia temporarily during the war, which had previously, by leave, been read the first time and referred to the Committee for Courts of Justice, was reported, without amendment, from said committee for the adoption of the Senate. On motion of Mr. Collier, the bill was laid on the table.

The following bills were read the third time and passed:

Senate bill to amend the act amending the eleventh section of chapter two hundred and eight of the Code, so as to increase the allowance to jurors in criminal cases.

Senate bill to amend the act amending the thirty-first and thirty-second sections of chapter one hundred and eighty-four of the Code, so as to increase the fees of clerks of courts for certain services.

Senate bill to amend and re-enact the thirty-sixth section of chapter seventy-six of the Code of Virginia, so as to increase the per diem and mileage of witnesses.

A bill to repeal the act passed March 10th, 1864, entitled "an act to prohibit the granting of ordinary licenses at certain specified places in the Commonwealth."

House bill incorporating the Petersburg Glass Company.

Mr. Jones, of Brunswick, offered a resolution, which was passed, providing for the holding of evening sessions hereafter, to commence at half-past 7 o'clock.

After the transaction of some other unimportant business,

On motion of Mr. Hunter, the Senate resolved into secret session.

When the doors were opened the Senate adjourned.

House of Delegates.

Several private and unimportant bills were introduced from committees and put upon the calendar.

The following bills were passed:

The bill to enroll and organize all the arms-bearing portion of the male population for military purposes.

Bill to appropriate two hundred and fifty thousand dollars to the Eastern Lunatic Asylum, with a "ryder," by Mr. Haymond, of Marion, making the fund payable quarterly.

Bill to provide for making surveys in certain cases, and appropriating five thousand dollars for that purpose.

Bill for the relief of Lunsford L. Loving, of the county of Nelson.

Bill for the relief of Alfred Beard, late sheriff of Greenbrier county.

Bill to authorize any county or corporation court to relieve from county levies in certain cases.

At 1 o'clock the bill and substitute were laid on the table, and the order of the day — the resolution of Mr. Staples, of Patrick, in regard to authorizing a convention of the people of Virginia--taken up and discussed.

The resolution provides that the question of "a convention" or "no convention" be voted on at the March election by the people. The resolution was adopted.
