A.resting-place, bed, “κοίτοιο μεδώμεθα” Od.3.334, cf. 2.358; “οἱ δ᾽ ἐπὶ κοῖτον ἐσσεύοντο” 14.455; στυγερὸς δ᾽ ὑπεδέξατο κ., of birds, 22.470; stall, fold, Arat.1116; ἀπάγειν ἐπὶ κοῖτον pen, Longus 1.8.
II. sleep, “ἐπὴν νὺξ ἔλθῃ, ἕλῃσί τε κ. ἅπαντας” Od.19.515; κοίτοιο ὥρη bed-time, ib.510; ἐπ᾽ ἠόα κ. lying abed till dawn, Hes.Op. 574; τὸν ὑπασπίδιον κοῖτον ἰαύειν sleep under arms, E.Rh.740 (lyr.); κ. ποιεεσθαι go to bed, Hdt.7.17; “ἐς κ. παρεῖναι” Id.1.9.
