Distressing, accident.

--On Thursday, the 29th instant, Mr. Rufus Pollard, a young man, shot himself accidentally at Union Point, on the Georgia Railroad. It seemed that he snapped a cap on his pistol, and failing to fire, he put on a new one, and while doing so, the powder in the pistol took fire and exploded, the ball striking through the hand and body near his heart. He lingered for a few moments and then expired.

He had just set aside his text books and quit the school-room, and was arranging to depart for Virginia to serve his beloved South.--Atlanta Intelligencer.
