at a meeting of the Warrenton Riflemen, Company K. 17th regiment Virginia volunteers, held at their encampment near Centreville. Va, on the 1st day of February, 1862, the following resolutions were unanimously adopted by the Company. Whereas, it has pleased an all wise Providence to take from us by death, our esteemed fellow-soldier, John J. Smith--
- Resolved, 1st. That we will ever cherish the memory of him whose many virtues we all so much admired — he was amiable, kind, generous and brave; and while we bow in submission to the will of God, we can but mourn over the loss of one who has thus been cut down in the prime of life.
- 2d. We deeply sympathize with his afflicted family in their sad bereavement.
- 3d. That these resolutions be published in the Richmond Dispatch, and a copy thereof furnished to the family of the deceased.
