General Assembly of Virginia.
Senate.

Monday, March 10, 1862.

The Senate was called to order at 12 o'clock by the President. Prayer by Rev. Mr. Baker.

House bill declaring ‘"the powers of boards of exemption, and to impose penalties on members of such boards for usurping powers not conferred on them,"’ was referred to the Committee on Military Affairs.

House bill authorizing the reorganization of the Culpeper Minute Men and the Culpeper Rifles, was amended and laid on the table.

Mr. Day, Senator from Isle of Wight, rose to a personal explanation. He stated that when a call of the Senate was made, a few days since, he had gone home to attend to matters of imperious necessity. The explanation was deemed perfectly satisfactory by the Senate.

The bill to amend the 1st, 7th and 12th sections of an act, entitled ‘"an act to raise troops to meet the requisition on Virginia by the President of the Confederate States,"’ passed February 16, 1862, was taken up and passed.

The Senate adopted a resolution directing the Clerk to procure passports for the members to leave the city.

House bill changing the lines of Pulaski and Wythe counties was taken up and passed also, the bill for the relief of the securities of Ro. O. Does, late sheriff of Campbell county.

Mr. Anderson made an unsuccessful endeavor to take up and pass the bill for removing the archives belonging to the Supreme Court of Appeals from Lewisburg. The bill was read the requisite number of times and would have passed, but for the absence of a number of Senators, whose votes were necessary to make up the number to 24.

All bills on the calendar were advanced a stage, and some few ordered to their engrossment. The calendar was under consideration at the hour of adjournment.

--The Senate on Saturday, on motion
