The Lamented Griffith.

This gallant officer and distinguished son of Mississippi, who was wounded in the fight of Sunday, died during the ensuing night. His remains were yesterday brought to the residence of Mr. James Purcell, where they were visited by President Davis, between whom and the departed hero the most intimate friendly relations subsisted. During the Mexican war, where the President commanded the celebrated Mississippi Regiment, Gen. G. was an officer in the regiment, and was ever regarded with the laghest esteem by his chief.
