A Dose for the Essex.

--A letter received in Charleston, from a good source, says that the Yankee gunboat Essex, in going down the Mississippi river, suffered from the attentions of the Confederate batteries at a place near Vicksburg, Eighteen bodies were buried from the Essex, which received also at least two shots in dangerous place. The withdrawal of the Essex left the river above Donalsonville clear of Yankee gunboats.
