The battle on the Rapidan.

Gen Grant moved from Culpeper Court House, crossing the Rapidan at Germanna and Ely's Fords, and taking the road to Bowling Green, in Caroline county, thus attempting to turn our right and get between Lee and Richmond.
Late yesterday evening Grant made an attack and was handsomely repulsed.
Ewell took 2,000 prisoners and four guns.
At daybreak this morning the battle was renewed, and is now raging with great fury.
Gen. Rosser whipped the enemy's cavalry yesterday on our right and took 113.
prisoners.
The battle ground is near Chancellorsville.
Brig. Gen. Jones, of Va., was killed. Sallust.

--The enemy renewed the attack this morning with great violence, attempting to turn our right and get between us and Richmond.
Every attack of the enemy was repulsed.
We have driven him some distance on the left, but he is very stubborn on the right, but is now giving way.
Lieut. Gen. Longstreet had turned the enemy's left, and was pushing him back steadily, when he was severely wounded.--He was shot by Mahone's brigade through mistake.
General Jenkins, of S. C., was mortally wounded by the same brigade.
Gen. Longstreet is doing well.
He and his command saved the day on the right.
Gen. Kershaw commanded McLaws's division with great honor to himself.
The artillery took but little part on either side, on account of the woods and the nature of the ground.
Our loss is severe, including many valuable officers.
Among the killed are General Jennings, (Jenkins?) of S. C.; Stafford, of La.; Colonel Nance and Lieutenant Colonel Galliard, of S. C., and Col. J. Thompson Brown, of Richmond (commanding a battalion of artillery).
Gen. Benning, of Georgia, is wounded, but not severely.
Gen. Wadsworth, of the Yankee army, was killed.
The battle was fought in the Wilderness, and will probably be designated as the battle of the Wilderness.
The enemy has been pushed back towards Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg.
