Literary Item.

--We hear that Colonel S. Bassett French, a well-known citizen of Chesterfield county, is preparing a history of Virginia's experience in the line of war for the past four years. The relations of Colonel French with both the Confederate and State Governments during that period have given him an opportunity enjoyed by few for furnishing to the world a description of probably the most interesting time in the history of our State.
