Johnson is the very best record of a celebrated cause which has been given to history. (See Chase's Circuit Court Reports.) It sets out in detail the facts collated above as to the slow process of obtaining a trial, and also gives a summary of the reasons why there should have been no trial for treason, prepared by Mr. Charles O'Conor, which is well worthy the perusal of every lawyer. It may be stated, on the authority of General Johnson, that the report of everything which was said or done by every actor in :he transaction was submitted to the person who said or did it before published, and it was not published until approved and corrected by him.
