General Floyd.
The appointment of this officer to be Major General, by the Virginia Legislature, has been the occasion of a deal of abuse and ridicule from the Northern journals.
Their denunciation and ribaldry only indicate their appreciation of his services to the Southern cause, and their apprehension of the trouble he may give the Northern Government yet. He is a man of energy and forecasts, as they know; and as a General be exercised the Federal forces in the West sufficiently last year to give them to understand what they may expect as soon as he takes the field again.
Notwithstanding the obstacles in his way, it is understood that the enlistments have been large already, and there is good reason to hope that he will soon have enough of his "ten thousand" to take the field, of which the enemy will have due notice.
Floyd's Brigade.
--Wm. Munford, Esq., late Lieutenant-Colonel of the 17th Virginia regiment, proposes raising a regiment to be attached to Floyd's Brigade, and has established a recruiting station in this city.
