Treasury Note Bill.--The consideration of the bill authorizing the issue of Treasury notes was then resumed. The amendment proposed by Mr. Brannon was further amended by providing that the Governor should transmit a copy of the bill, as well as copies of the bills named therein, immediately after its passage. Messrs. Smith and August addressed the Senate on the merits of the bill. The amendment was agreed to by a vote of — ayes 18, noes 17. Mr. Bruce moved that the Senate do now adjourn. Stealing Pies and things. --Sam Short, slave of Mrs. Elizabeth T. Smith, was arrested and placed in the cage yesterday, for effecting a felonious entrance into his mistress' house on 4th street, on the night of the 25th of February, and stealing therefrom "a basket containing divers cakes and pies, valued at $10." The warrant was issued on the oath of a fellow darkey, who is suspected also of being concerned in the abduction of the edibles enumerated.
s, free, from New Kent, living in Mrs. Pepper's kitchen on 17th street, contrary to law, was whipped.--Tom, slave of R. H. Bosher, was tried for knocking Wm. H. Stywater on the nose, and damaging that article, on Broad street, on Sunday. It was proved that the darkey was drunk and run against Stywater, opposite Mark Downey's house, "and kinder pushed him on one side," when, being spoken to, "he squared off" and inflicted the injury complained of. He was punished.--Sam Short, slave of Elizabeth T. Smith, was tried for stealing a basket containing a lot of pies and cakes, but was acquitted on proving that he purchased the articles.--Jno. Barry gave bail to appear that morning and answer the charge of making a personal demonstration of a warlike character against Timothy Sheehan.--Frederick Thompson was arraigned for feloniously entering in the night time the canal boat Benj. W. Green, and stealing two dollars from Presley, a slave in charge of the craft. Committed until to-day.--Lewis
