It may not be uninteresting to the readers of the Dispatch to hear how affairs are progressing in this part of the "Northern Neck." I have nothing to write you of battles fought, of victories achieved. The marauders have not dared to place foot upon our shores since the repulse they met with at Mr. James Gresham's, of which affair you were duly notified and correctly informed. A glance at our geographical position shows us more exposed to the vile depredations of the hired minions than any other portion of our great Commonwealth, save that of the "Eastern Shore." The fact that this county has furnished more than her quota of troops — has met the enemy whenever they dared to land, shows that she is bound to the glorious "Southern Confederacy" with "hooks of steel."
