tly superior forces, until Hardee could evacuate Savannah, one of the neatest achievements of the war. General Harrison was subsequently engaged at Rivers' bridge, Broxton's bridge, at Cheraw, S. C., and kept up a running fight on the march to Averasboro, covering the retreat of Hardee.
