On motion, Resolved, That the Committee on Public Grounds and Buildings be authorized to grant the use of the room over the engine house on Brook Avenue to Company I, Capt. Robert F. Morriss, on such terms as they may deem expedient. The ordinance authorizing the erection in certain cases of awning posts and awnings on and over the sidewalks, and prescribing their construction, &c., was taken up and considered. Before coming to a vote, the ordinance was laid on the table, on motion of Mr. Hill. An ordinance providing for the effectual protection of persons performing work upon the public streets, lanes and alleys of the city, was taken up and considered, and

A petition was presented from Mr. W. C. Allen, asking the re-payment of certain fines improperly assessed against him. Referred to Finance Committee. Mr. Grattan, from the Finance Committee, reported an ordinance concerning the collection of city taxes. The ordinance, as reported amongst other changes, allows 5 instead of 10 per cent for speedy settlement. Mr. Howison opposed the proposed reduction. Messrs.
