Mr. Bruce said he offered this as a compromise, and went on to show that Virginia must ultimately take her place in the Southern Confederacy. Mr. Moore, of Rockbridge, hoped it would be the pleasure of the Convention to reject the substitute. So far from being a compromise, it was nothing less than a proposition for secession. Mr. Moore emphatically denied the charges that had been brought against himself and those who thought with him, of being " submissionists." It was not only unfounded, but untrue. When Virginia failed to receive what she had a right to demand, he would go for secession as a revolutionary right. Mr. Bruce further explained h
