Rifled cannon. --A Washington letter says: The Federal Government has not a single piece of rifled ordnance at present; but the Rhode Island Artillery, and I believe the Massachusetts Artillery, are supplied with James' bronze rifled cannon, which are commended by our Ordnance Department as the most effective of that species of ordnance known in the world. It is stated, too, that the Government is about to order a large number of their standard cannon to be rifled at Chicopee, and to be fitted with James' shell and shot.
