The very latest from the North. We received last night, through the polite attention of friends, copies of the New York Herald and Times of Wednesday, the 8th, which came by flag of truce boat last night. The following dispatch from Gen. Grant is the latest official intelligence about the late battle at Corinth: Hdq'rs of Gen. Grant, Jackson, Tenn., Oct. 6--12.20 P. M. To Major General Halleck, General-in-Chief: Generals Ord and Huribut came upon the enemy yesterday, and General Huribut having driven in small bodies of the rebels the day before, after seven hours hard fighting drove the enemy five miles back across the Hatchle towards Corinth, capturing two batteries, about three hundred prisoners, and many small arms. He had on when he left a blue flannel shirt. He may attempt to make his way to Williamsburg.
